Two clubs are said to be interested in the Celtic defender.

Jack Hendry of Celtic controls the ball during the UEFA Europa League Group B match between FC Salzburg and Celtic at Red Bull Arena Wals-Siezenheim on October 4, 2018 in Salzburg, Austria.

Two Scottish Premiership clubs are showing interest in Celtic defender Jack Hendry, report The Daily Record.

The paper say that both Kilmarnock and Motherwell are keen on landing the player, who has failed to make any significant progress in the Hoops first-team since being signed by Brendan Rodgers last January.

The report states that the Hoops are eager to get rid of the player after seeing a potential move to Hull City fall through before the end of the English transfer window.

Hendry, 24, has failed to make a single competitive appearance under Neil Lennon and clearly has no future at the club. Right now he’s so far on the fringes of the team that midfielder Nir Bitton has had appearances at centre-back instead of him.

However, moving him on will leave the Hoops further short in the central defensive areas and as the end of the Scottish transfer window edges closer, the interest in Hendry brings into sharp focus the club’s need to make an addition in the position.

Lots has been said about the left-back and right-back positions in Lennon’s squad. While they need strengthened too, moving forward with three recognised centre-backs would leave the Hoops weaker than they were last season.

Rodgers had Dedryck Boyata, Filip Benkovic, Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic to choose from, with only the latter two of those remaining at the club. Only Christopher Jullien has been brought in to add support.

Bitton may be a solid utility man, but can he really be relied upon if the Hoops are unlucky with injuries as the season progresses?

In a trophy chasing campaign that could potentially last beyond 60 matches, some of which Lennon may be tempted to play a back three in, a specialist centre-back is required.

With time running out on them, the club need to start making positive progression with their summer targets.
