The Hoops, top of the Scottish Premiership, take on Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final this weekend.
Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon has joked that he “might” give Brendan Rodgers a call this weekend for some advice ahead of the Bhoys’ Scottish Cup semi-final tie against Aberdeen at Hampden Park on Sunday.
In his first stint in charge at Parkhead, from 2010 to 2014, Lennon’s charges were beaten in three semi-finals and a final, as well as being overcome by Rangers in the 2011 Scottish League Cup showpiece.
While at Hibernian, meanwhile, Lennon lost to Aberdeen and Celtic in cup semi-finals, but in conversation with The Scotsman, the 47-year-old rubbished any talk of a personal Hampden hoodoo.
In addition, Lennon feels that the team assembled by Rodgers which has bulldozed all before them in recent years shows that whatever the ex-Liverpool boss did psychology-wise has worked, and should be fine for the Dons tie.
“I look back on some of the games we lost [in my time as Celtic manager] and the Kilmarnock one in the League Cup final [in 2012] we should have been home and hosed before they scored,” said Lennon.
“You think is it a psychological thing? There was a 3-2 defeat to St Mirren in a semi-final when we missed a penalty and that changed the psychology when we were well on top. But whatever I missed Brendan obviously remedied with this squad of players. I might be giving him a call tonight or tomorrow just to get a bit of advice from him…”
Lennon took the Celtic reins when Rodgers quit in February for Leicester City in a move that upset a lot of Hoops fans but the treble treble remains firmly on the horizon for the Parkhead side.
Celtic go into the game against Derek McInnes’s side on Sunday, 2pm kickoff.
