Celtic must resist reported interest in Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor from Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City

The highly rated Hoops duo have been linked with a move to Premier League side Leicester City.

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney and attacking midfielder Callum McGregor are being linked with a move to Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City this summer, according to a report in the Daily Express.

Tierney, a boyhood Hoops fan and academy graduate, is a fan favourite at Parkhead, having made 170 senior appearances and registering an impressive 37 assists as well as netting eight goals of his own, according to Transfermarkt.

Likewise, McGregor also came through the ranks at Celtic and is adored by the Bhoys supporters, his tally currently on 36 goals and 46 assists from 224 senior appearances (Transfermarkt).

The report suggests that Rodgers is a big admirer of both players and could be set to test his former side’s resolve over the summer by seeking to bring the duo to the King Power Stadium.

With Leicester pair Ben Chilwell and James Maddison being linked with the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, it is speculated that, should the Foxes duo leave the East Midlands, Rodgers would reinvest some of the funds in signing Tierney and McGregor.

Unforgivable?

Such a transfer report will undoubtedly be met with dismay by much of the Celtic fanbase, many of whom want nothing more to do with Rodgers following his controversial mid-season switch from Parkhead to Leicester.

In addition, Celtic are facing one of their trickier summers in recent years, given how Neil Lennon’s permanent appointment has not been universally lauded, a bloated squad needs to be trimmed, and some new high-calibre signings ought to be made.

With the Hoops’ bitter Old Firm rivals having picked up two wins in the derby last term, alarm bells have started ringing amongst some of the Bhoys supporters with regards to how much longer they can continue to dominate Scottish football.

Given all these factors, would the Celtic board really risk selling two of their best players, not to mention academy graduates and fan favourites – and on top of that, to the club managed by an individual who has angered so much of the Hoops fanbase?
