Brendan Rodgers has taken Celtic to a whole new level this season.

Hoops legend Johan Mjallby sat down for an exclusive interview with the Daily Record, and lauded Brendan Rodgers’ side’s exceptional season so far, but highlighted how they are currently not quite at the level of Martin O’Neills treble winning side that he played in during the early 2000’s.

Celtic have been sensational domestically this term. They have already won the Scottish League Cup and have a Scottish Cup semi final against bitter rivals Rangers to look forward to.

The Bhoys have also been crowned Scottish champions, and currently hold a 24 point lead over second placed Aberdeen.

Mjallby, who won the treble with the Hoops in 2001, was asked whether the team he played in under the current Republic of Ireland boss would have been too strong for Rodgers’ current crop of stars, as quoted by the Daily Record:

“I would say, probably, yes. I say that because of the experience. We were a team of grown up boys, in fact, we were men. This team now is fantastic but I still think you need to give it another year before you can compare it with Martin’s team. But if they keep doing what they’re doing now they’re going to be No2 after the Lisbon Lions.”

Celtic are of course well on track to win the treble this season, with just the Scottish FA Cup standing between them and a place in the history books.

And if they manage that feat, it will be hard to argue that they are not one of the greatest Celtic sides of all time.
