Celtic legend Danny McGrain has been speaking to The Scottish Sun about Hoops prodigy Jeremie Frimpong.
The ex-Manchester City full-back has been in fine form this season, recording one goal and two assists in ten appearances across all competitions.
McGrain – who himself was a full-back at Celtic Park – has some kind words for the teenager.
The Scottish Sun quote him as saying: ‘He’s only 19 — I can’t wait to see him play when he’s in his 20s. He’s full of confidence and I admire the runs he makes. He’s clever.
‘If he isn’t at the club for a long time, then the way he’s going I’m pretty sure there will be £50m in the bank for him!’
That latter part is a big statement from the 70-year-old.
Should a club take the Dutchman away from Celtic Park in future for such as astronomical fee, it would see the Bhoys receive a club-record sum.
As of now, the club’s record departure stands at the £25 million received from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney, which was in fact a record exit for any player from Scotland.
The fact that McGrain thinks Frimpong could net Celtic double that should speak volumes as to how much potential the 19-year-old has.
The youngster is visibly getting better and better with each passing game.
He enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign in Scotland last term with two goals and four assists in 22 outings, and it really does look as if the sky is the limit for the Netherlands Under-20 star.
Amazingly, the No.30 only cost an initial £350,000, rising to £1 million with add-ons according to The Scottish Sun.
Should McGrain’s prediction come true, Frimpong could be the best value-for-money signing in Celtic’s history.
