Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are hoping to push Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side all the way this season.

Celtic legend Jackie McNamara spoke exclusively to the Daily Record about his former side’s start to the season, and insisted that they are still streets ahead of their bitter rivals Rangers.
The Hoops currently sit in second spot in the Scottish Premiership table, having taken nine points from their opening four league games, and are four points clear of the Gers.
Brendan Rodgers’ side outplayed and thoroughly outclassed Steven Gerrard’s men at Parkhead 10 days ago, and the eventual scoreline of 1-0 flattered the visitors.
Many predicted that Rangers would push Celtic all the way this season, but the gulf between the two sides is still clear to see.
That is a sentiment echoed by Hoops legend McNamara.
He told the Daily Record how Celtic are still streets ahead of Rangers:

“In the lead-up to the Old Firm game it was all about Rangers getting closer and that there was a crisis over at Celtic. But Brendan’s team did all their talking on the park. Celtic were excellent against Rangers. They deserved their victory and it could have been a lot more. If Celtic had got a second goal it would have been interesting to see if Rangers had come out. Rangers have solidified their defence and their two centre-halves have done well for them. In terms of football and the fact they have more quality in the final third. Celtic showed they are still way ahead.”
Next up for Celtic is a trip to St Mirren on Friday night, whilst Rangers play host to Dundee the following day, and both teams will be desperate for a win following the two-week international break.
