Celtic have learned their European opponents should they overcome the challenge of CFR Cluj.

Celtic will play Czech champions Slavia Prague in the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League if they make it past Cluj in the third qualifying round.

The Hoops play the first leg of that clash on Wednesday night in Romania before returning to Celtic Park next week hoping to finish the job.

As seeds in the process they will be favourites to see off the Cluj challenge and if they do, then Prague will be the next destination.

It’s a big hurdle in their attempts to make the group stages of the competition, with the potential opponents reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League last term.

Beating teams such as Sevilla, FC Zenit and Bordeaux on the way there, they were eventually put out by English Premier League side Chelsea.

Clearly they are an outfit not to be taken lightly and of the teams that Celtic could have drawn, they are arguably one of the most difficult.

Neil Lennon and his side’s entire focus will be on Cluj primarily, but it does set-up a tantalising play-off round for fans and neutrals.

Two historic sides going toe-to-toe for the chance to reach the biggest stage in club football is hard to pass up.

Reaction to the draw has been mixed, with some fans bullish, some fearful and some just wanting to see the club signing players that can help them compete better.
