Leigh Griffiths is very confident that he’ll recover his best form for Celtic.
Leigh Griffiths has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times that he will be back to his red-hot best for Celtic in time for next season.
The 27-year-old has struggled for regular football this season and only recently returned from a two-month absence with a calf injury.
At his best, Griffiths is arguably the most lethal striker in Scottish football and a 40-goal season during the 2015-16 campaign under Ronny Deila proves as much.
The Scotland international has only managed eight Premiership goals in 20 outings this season, but Griffiths is confident that he will be ‘back to his best’ next time around.
“I am hoping the best is still to come. With the muscle being released now and unblocked it is going to give me a lot more movement in my legs,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.
“Hopefully working with manager and fitness staff means that come pre-season I will be flying and back to my best.”
It’s precisely what Celtic fans need to hear. It seems unlikely that the Hoops will be able to keep Moussa Dembele for a third season at Parkhead and therefore someone like Griffiths is hugely important.
Manager Brendan Rodgers also has Odsonne Edouard on loan from PSG this season, but Griffiths might well be Rodgers’s first-choice hitman next season and it’s very encouraging that the man himself envisages a return to form and fitness.
