Pat Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live that he has been left surprised by the job Steven Gerrard has done at Rangers.
The former Scotland international also shared that Celtic have had ‘so many advantages’ over their Old Firm rivals because they have been able to build up the financial money they have acquired from Europe.
Well, Rangers were victorious against 10-man Celtic on Saturday despite a dominant display from Neil Lennon’s men, as the sending-off changed the tide of the game.
Nevin was asked whether he has been surprised by the job Gerrard has done in Glasgow, as he issued this honest response.
“Yes, I’ll be honest with you,” said Nevin. “Absolutely, yes. To do it fairly quickly and to turn it around.
“And remember, Celtic have won nine in a row. Celtic have so many advantages. Financially, they have had all that European money. The Champions League money. For years, and years and years. All that success.
“Rangers have been building up for a long time since their difficult periods of the bottom of the lowest tier, so I thought it was going to take a lot longer than this to even be competitive, never mind being well ahead, so I think Steven’s done a brilliant job doing that.
“A number of things in his favour that this Celtic team have kind of aged a little bit and try keep something going for ten years. It’s hard. You need to been on reinventing every two, three or four years and this year has looked to be the most difficult.”
Given that this is the season for the ten, or to stop the ten, there will be many Celtic fans who will be angry and annoyed that their team have put up such a defence.
Whilst Rangers have been near-on faultless from attack to defence, it hasn’t been the case for their rivals.
Even the most ardent of Celtic supporters will admit that the title race is over and it’s a feeling that those at Parkhead haven’t felt for many, many years given their utter dominance.
