Well, Celtic have made their first signing of the summer.
It was reported by Sky Sports this week that the Hoops had snapped up Liam Shaw on a pre-contract agreement, with his Sheffield Wednesday deal set to expire this summer.
Shaw is only 19 but quite a few Owls fans are disappointed to be losing what they feel is a big talent.
And he is a big talent, going by what Tony Pulis once said about him.
Pulis, who left the Championship club in December, said during the same month that Shaw is a ‘really, really promising’ kid – albeit one with a reckless streak, after being sent off against Reading.
He told The Sheffield Star: “I think he’s a very, very promising young player and although I took him off on Saturday, I only took him off because he’d been booked and I was worried he might get sent off. He’s a little bit reckless at times, with that youthful enthusiasm. And we don’t want to stop that.”
It’s a bit of a brave move by Shaw, it has to be said.
There’s no denying that Celtic are a massive club but it’s also a club whose manager has a very uncertain future.
The Hoops are 18 points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table and it’s very possible that Neil Lennon won’t be in charge by the time Shaw actually arrives.
So the fact that he has signed up for life at Parkhead nonetheless, rather than staying in the Championship, is a gamble and it’ll be fascinating to see whether it pays off.
If he’s as promising as Pulis claims then he’ll be absolutely fine in Scotland.
