What a trolley dash Celtic enjoyed on deadline day.

The Hoops signed three players on the final day of the transfer window and they were Jota, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The latter is interesting.

Celtic brought the USA international in on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, who were paying him £20,000 per week.

This is Carter-Vickers’s seventh loan away from Spurs and with all of them being in the Championship, he hasn’t tested himself against truly top-level opposition yet, the like of which he’ll find in the Europa League.

But going by old comments from Jan Vertonghen, he might well be able for whatever comes his way – physically, at least.

The Belgium international labelled the 23-year-old central defender as an ‘absolute beast’ back in 2016, telling ESPN: “He’s still young but he’s an absolute beast. He’s a real defender. He’s strong one-on-one, in the air, he’s not afraid and he can play from the back. That’s the style the gaffer wants to see from him.”

Power

At 6-foot-tall, Carter-Vickers isn’t the biggest centre-back that’ll have played for Celtic.

In contrast, Kristoffer Ajer, one of the players Carter-Vickers is replacing, was a full five inches taller for example.

But Vertonghen’s comments – made when the player was only 18 – illustrate that he has a hell of a lot of strength and hopefully for Celtic he can be the rock that he resembles physically.
