Niasse is reportedly set to leave Everton in January.
The Liverpool Echo have claimed that Everton have chosen to bite the bullet on striker Oumar Niasse and offload him in the January transfer window – and Celtic surely have to consider a move.
The 28-year-old striker has not been named in Everton’s last 12 Premier League squads, with Marco Silva converting Richarlison into a striker after signing him from Watford as a winger.
It means that January signing Cenk Tosun has been relegated to the bench, while Dom Calvert-Lewin is feeding off of scraps. Niasse is left to rot in the reserves.
Niasse, a £13.5million signing from Lokomotiv Moscow (Everton’s official site), has managed just 38 appearances for Everton since joining the club in January 2016.
Following loan spells with Hull City and the odd stint in the senior side, Everton have finally made a decision on Niasse’s future and that is to throw him through the exit door next month.
Celtic have got to consider a move for the Senegal international, with the Scottish champions in desperate need of a new striker. Leigh Griffiths is having a break from football, while Odsonne Edouard has suffered another injury.
Brendan Rodgers has already iterated his desire to bring in a striker in January, as he looks to mastermind a third consecutive treble in his third season in charge.
Adding Niasse would give Celtic a much bigger goal threat, experience of playing against the world’s best defenders and pace in behind an opponent’s defence. Niasse would guarantee goals in Scotland.
