Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly keen to sign Copenhagen’s Peter Ankersen as Mikael Lustig’s replacement.

Everyone knows Celtic need a new right-back this summer and they could do worse than to sign a player with a proven winning mentality and a CV full of trophies.

Mikael Lustig has gone, taking almost a decade of loyal service and eight Scottish Premiership medals with him. And while the Swede hasn’t been at his best during the last 12 months or so, his departure robs Celtic of a lot of character and proven success.

But in fellow Scandinavian Peter Ankersen, Neil Lennon and co might just have uncovered a ready-made replacement.

The Scottish Sun claims that Ankersen is leaving Copenhagen this summer and Celtic could be his destination.

At 28, he is not the usual Celtic signing. Ankersen is an established Denmark international with 22 caps and he could walk immediately into Lennon’s starting XI. And he certainly knows how to win – a trait which should come in handy at a club who recently celebrated their third successive domestic treble.

Ankersen has won eight trophies in his career, including a hat-trick of domestic titles at Copenhagen and the Austrian Bundesliga with Red Bull Salzburg.

Make no mistake, this is not a budding young talent who needs to be nurtured and polished. Ankersen is a grizzled, battle-scared defender for the here and now.
