Celtic and Rangers will go head-to-head for major honours next season, but are they already competing for the same player as well?
According to France Football, both Old Firm rivals want to sign 6’4 Troyes powerhouse Kiki Kouyate this summer.
But is Celtic a more likely destination than Rangers after who Steven Gerrard has just brought to Ibrox?
The Gers announced on Saturday that they had signed Calvin Bassey on a long-term contract.
According to The Record, Bassey is a left-back who had regularly been playing as a centre-back for Leicester City Under-23s last season, meaning that Gerrard now has Connor Goldson, George Edmundson, Nikola Katic, Filip Helander and the former Foxes starlet as centre-half options.
And with Kouyate being a centre-back, it just makes much more sense to pick Celtic if, hypothetically, he had a choice between them and the light Blues.
It makes more sense because the Hoops have already offloaded one centre-back in the form of Jozo Simunovic and it’d take a brave man to bet the mortgage on Kristoffer Ajer being there by the end of the summer.
Simply put, Kouyate might be much more needed at Parkhead than Ibrox and therefore you have to imagine that Neil Lennon has the edge over Gerrard in that regard.
