The Parkhead January signing encountered issues with his original loan switch to Nashville SC from Glasgow due to their MLS affiliation.
New Celtic signing Andrew Gutman encountered problems with regards to his loan move back to the United States but is now set to work under a former Hoops coach, according to a report.
The 22-year-old defender arrived at Parkhead after a prolonged transfer saga, which included a trial at Old Firm rivals Rangers, during the January transfer window, and was immediately sent back out on loan to Nashville SC.
However, they are affiliated with Major League Soccer who refused to sanction the move, meaning the American left-back was left in no-man’s land, but according to The Charlotte Post he has now linked up with Charlotte Independence.
The North Carolina side is currently being managed by Jim McGuinness, who spent time as a performance consultant at Celtic when Neil Lennon was in charge at the club and he subsequently coached Celtic’s U-16, U-19 and U-20 sides, according to the Irish Times.
“There is a good connection between Jim, the head coach here – he is a former Celtic coach,” Gutman told The Charlotte Post. “I decided this was the best way to get better and develop more and hopefully get back to Celtic, but at the same time, help Charlotte as much as I can, win as many games and play the best soccer we can.”
Illinois-born Gutman stood out for Indiana Hoosiers across the Atlantic and recently won the Hermann Trophy, which is considered the most prestigious award handed out to a college player in the States, so there are hopes that he can continue his development before going on to star for Celtic.
With the full-back set to work under someone who knows the Parkhead setup well and will have the player’s parent club’s interests at hearts, he could hardly have found a better club to play for in his native country.
