Celtic look set to head back into the Japanese market in January – and Greg Taylor can understand Ange Postecoglou’s thinking.

The Bhoys raided Yokohama F Marinos over the summer to bring in Postecoglou as their new manager.

Postecoglou then plucked striker Kyogo Furuhashi away from Vissel Kobe. Kyogo has become an absolute hero at Parkhead this season.

It now seems that Celtic will have more Japanese players arriving in the January transfer window.

Celtic to sign three Japan internationals?

Sponichi in Japan report that Celtic are in the final stages of a deal to sign Yokohama F Marinos attacker Daizen Maeda.

Maeda knows Postecoglou well and will allegedly join on loan with a view to a £1.3million permanent deal.

The Scottish Sun add that Celtic want two other Japanese talents in Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

Kawasaki Frontale star Hatate can play at left back or in midfield and has won two league titles in a row.

Midfielder Ideguchi plays with Gamba Osaka having returned to Japan following a disappointing stint with Leeds United.

Taylor comments on Postecoglou’s plans

Celtic have had Japanese players in the past – Shunsuke Nakamura, Koki Mizuno – there hasn’t been this influx.

Celtic left back Greg Taylor has now offered his view, telling the Glasgow Times that he can understand Postecoglou’s approach.

Taylor thinks this transfer strategy ‘makes total sense’, and is seemingly eager to see more Japanese players join Kyogo at Parkhead.

“I can totally understand why the gaffer will look at the Japanese market,” said Taylor. “He managed over there and he will have a strong knowledge of that league, and many others. You just need to look at how well Kyogo has done to see the talent that is there. He has been a breath of fresh air for us since coming to the club. He’s an infectious character with the way he plays, his work-rate and his goals.”

“Kyogo also does it all with a smile on his face. His level of performance has been top class and you look at his goal return. I can totally see why the manager would look to bring more players in from Japan. It makes total sense to me,” he added.
