Celtic and Rangers will go head-to-head once again in the Old Firm on Sunday.

Scott Bain of Celtic looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 Second Leg match between Valencia v Celtic at Estadio Mestalla on February 21, 2019 in Valencia, Spain.

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has admitted that he prefers ‘more away fans’ as Rangers prepare to visit Parkhead on Sunday ahead of an eagerly-awaited Old Firm fixture.

Last May, the Gers went down the road of slashing the away allocation for Old Firm derby, with their neighbours responding by doing the same thing, as reported by Herald Scotland.

As a result, there has been a much small away following when this fixture has come about and it will be the same once again at the weekend.

But Rangers supporters will love what Bain has had to say about the situation because he admits he prefers a large away following because it makes for a better atmosphere.

“There will be a lot more Celtic fans than the last time we played them,” said Bain, as quoted by Herald Scotland. “There will be less Rangers fans and we need to use the atmosphere. If anything, I like it when there are more away fans. It creates a better atmosphere, more of an Old Firm derby feeling. But it is what it is.”

For large parts of the season now, Bain has been a first-team player for the Bhoys and he will be looking to start in between the sticks at the weekend.

During the reverse fixture, then-Brendan Rodgers side suffered a narrow defeat against Steven Gerrard’s men, but since that game, things have changed dramatically.

At that time, Rangers were level on points with their neighbours, but following the Premiership’s return from the mid-winter break, Celtic have stormed the league.

They are now 10 points clear at the top of the table as they will be looking to extend that lead at the weekend in what will be the first of two Old Firm matches before the season draws to a close.
