Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon hits out at club legend Chris Sutton.
Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon says that football pundit Chris Sutton may have a personal agenda against him.
Sutton, a former Celtic player, is known for presenting bold opinions and for his outspoken nature, either on social media or on his columns for the Daily Record.
The former Blackburn Rovers striker has been a regular critic of Gordon over the last 18 months. And Gordon now believes that the attack is getting personal.
Gordon says that Sutton does not add anything constructive, and focuses a lot on the negatives, rather than the positives.
The 34-year-old accuses Sutton of going over the top at times, and says there are other players in the squad who receive equal or more criticisms than him.
He defends himself by saying his record speaks for itself, as the last time he lost a domestic match was a year and a half ago.
“It’s his opinion but he focuses rather a lot on the negatives, rather than anything positive. It’s more of a campaign,” said Gordon, as quoted by The Daily Record.
“He had his mind made up very early on. He is trying to make everything fit his early statements. That’s his job as a pundit.
“My record against any other Celtic goalkeeper would stand up in terms of wins. The last time I lost a domestic league game was against Aberdeen about a year and a half ago.
“I think he goes over the top at times and I know I’m not the only one to perceive that. There are other guys in our squad who receive as much, if not more, criticism than me.
“I’m not sure if it’s a personal thing, but it seems to be.”
Celtic have a strong squad and they are capable of winning the domestic treble once again. The Bhoys are top of the table with 16 points, two points ahead of second placed Aberdeen.
