Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has been in superb form for Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club so far this season, and there is no surprise to see Scotland manager Alex McLeish make him his first-choice goalkeeper.

McGregor, who returned to Rangers in the summer transfer window and is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Gers, has been given the nod ahead of Celtic custodian Craig Gordon for the Nations League matches.

Gordon, who is the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic and is one of the best in his position in the Scottish Premiership, has featured for Scotland in the friendly internationals.

The 35-year-old former Sunderland goalkeeper has admitted his disappointed at playing second fiddle to Rangers star McGregor for Scotland.

When asked if it was harsh to be thrown in for the last two friendlies, Gordon said, as quoted by The Scottish Sun: “Yes it is — that’s certainly not lost on me! But that’s the situation and those are the games I’ve been asked to play in.

“We lost seven goals in those matches but we are playing against the best in the world and some of the top teams.”

Gordon added: “I haven’t spoken to the manager about my position. I want to play in every game but he has his job to do.

“He’s going to pick the team and I’ll play whenever I’m asked and support whoever else is playing when I’m not, but obviously I want to play in every game.”

Pushing

What Gordon needs to do is play well for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, and that will help him make his case to McLeish.

So far this season, McGregor has been better than Gordon in the Scottish Premiership, and until that changes, then the Celtic star may have to play second fiddle to the 36-year-old.
