Celtic’s pursuit of Sheffield United defender George Baldock is proving ‘problematic’ because of the money needed to secure his signature.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that Baldock would be ‘at the top end’ of Celtic’s scale financially, most likely in terms of wages as well as the fee.

Sheffield United may have suffered relegation but aren’t exactly desperate for money right now, and are under little pressure to sell Baldock.

The right back has three years left on his Blades contract, hence the difficulty prising him away from Bramall Lane this summer.

Baldock is Ange Postecoglou’s top right back target, but Celtic aren’t willing to spend any more than £5million on a deal to bring him to Parkhead.

That is unlikely to tempt Sheffield United into a move, and Celtic are finding their pursuit of Baldock difficult due to the financial outlay required.

Baldock, 28, has racked up 139 appearances for Sheffield United, bagging four goals and 10 assists for the club whilst becoming a fan favourite.

Celtic have other right back targets in mind, and they may seem a little more likely to arrive than Baldock right now.
