Scott Brown is set to become the new Fleetwood Town manager – and has also rejected an offer from Celtic to present the league title to Callum McGregor.

That’s according to The Scottish Daily Mail (11/05, back page), who claim that Brown has won the race for the Fleetwood job.

It was reported earlier this month that Brown was in contention for the job with Fleetwood narrowly avoiding relegation from League One.

New reports today now suggest that Brown has indeed landed the job and will take his first step into management.

Brown announced his retirement last week having left his player-coach role with Aberdeen earlier this year.

This is an interesting situation for Brown ad he will be replacing his former Scotland teammate and ex-Celtic defender Stephen Crainey at Fleetwood.

The Cod Army have struggled to settle on a manager of late and the hope is that Brown can be a great success story.

Brown, 36, is still relatively inexperienced as a coach but will now head into managing in England’s League One.

This is maybe the first step towards becoming a Celtic manager one day, but Brown has actually refused one offer from the Bhoys.

The report claims that Celtic asked Brown to return to Parkhead for this weekend’s game against Motherwell.

The idea was that Brown would hand the Scottish Premiership trophy over to captain Callum McGregor.

However, Brown has refused that offer as he doesn’t want to steal the thunder from McGregor, allowing him to bask in this moment without the fear of being overshadowed.

This is McGregor’s first title as Celtic captain and it will be a moment he has dreamed of for years.

McGregor watched Brown lift title after title at Celtic and finally has the opportunity to do that for himself.

Brown understandably wants his former teammate to enjoy that moment and has graciously decided to step back from the title celebrations.

The hope is that Brown will have trophies to celebrate as a manager in the near future, with Fleetwood taking the gamble on the former Celtic hero.
