Celtic fans will love Virgil van Dijk’s comments after snub

The Southampton defender has fond memories of playing at Celtic Park.

Celtic fans will love Virgil van Dijk’s comments about the club’s iconic home, after it was omitted from the latest edition of EA Sports’ FIFA computer game series.

Van Dijk spent two seasons at Celtic, in which he appeared against European heavyweights Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax in the sort of Champions League ties synoymous with the Bhoys and Celtic Park.

But despite its reputation, the stadium affectionately known as Paradise will not feature in FIFA 18, along with Glasgow’s two other major footballing venues Ibrox and Hampden Park.

And Van Dijk, who left Celtic for Southampton two years ago, has found it hard to believe.

“You can’t describe it, especially with the European nights it’s something out of this world,” he told Squawka. “It should be in the FIFA 18 game.

“In the first season, I played Champions League there, playing against Barcelona, Ajax, AC Milan and the atmosphere in the stadium was indescribable.

“Sometimes on the pitch you don’t really hear the noise of the fans, but Celtic Park was a different story.

“It helps you a lot – it gives you goosebumps as well. You look around and you think ‘unbelievable’.”

Brendan Rodgers’ side were beaten 5-0 at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on the most recent Champions League night at Celtic Park.

But they will hope to put that result behind them when they travel to Belgian champions Anderlecht on Wednesday.

The Brussels-based side are said to be offering their players £40,000 each if they can beat their Scottish counterparts.
