Ex-Celtic loanee Filip Benkovic played for Leicester City’s Under-23’s last night.

Celtic landed one centre back this summer in Christopher Jullien, but Neil Lennon may be looking to land one more before the transfer deadline.

The Bhoys have yet to really give Jullien a run of games, and whilst Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer are at the club too, another centre back would be ideal, with Jack Hendry out of favour.

Ultimately, Celtic lost two centre backs this summer without getting in any cash for them, with Dedryck Boyata joining Hertha Berlin for free and Filip Benkovic’s loan move coming to an end.

Benkovic has yet to feature for Leicester in the Premier League, and he actually turned out for their Under-23’s on Monday night.

Benkovic played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw, getting key playing time as he works his way back from a foot injury that cut short his Under-21 European Championship campaign.

The 22-year-old needs games, and Leicester gave him one on Monday night, but Celtic fans weren’t impressed with seeing their former loan star playing in such a nothing game.

Bhoys supporters have taken to Twitter to urge Celtic to get Benkovic out of Leicester if they’re only going to use him in the Under-23’s, believing he’s being wasted.

That injury is the key behind the decision, but with Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu and Wes Morgan in the Leicester ranks too, Celtic fans want to see the Croatian brought ‘home’ this summer.
