The Hoops ace is “70 percent fit” according to Lennon but some Parkhead faithful want him to get his operation before the end of the season.
Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon has issued a fitness update on Kieran Tierney that has not gone down very well amongst a number of the club’s fans.
The highly rated defender has been struggling with a hip injury for much of the season and will need a double hernia operation at the end of the campaign.
Despite his injury issues, Tierney is back in training and played for just under an hour in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen last weekend.
At his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm trip to Rangers, Lennon declared the 21-year-old ace as 70 percent fit and admitted it “might be a big ask for him to play all three remaining games” but also said “a 70 percent Kieran Tierney is better than most at 100 percent”.
Last season, Tierney played more minutes than any other top flight outfield player in Europe, but Celtic are limited at left-back and Callum McGregor filling in for Tierney in that position in the last visit to Ibrox did not go well.
That said, the Northern Irishman’s comments, posted on Celtic’s Twitter account, and the hint of possibly utilising Tierney between now and the end of the season were criticised by some fans on Twitter, who pleaded with the club to rule him out so he can commence his recovery:
