Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has been called up to the Norway squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Romania and Faroe Islands.

The 21-year-old centre-back, who has already won eight caps for his nation (Transfermarkt), has become an essential player for club and country over the past few years, with remarkable progress shown.

Having signed in July 2016 during Ronny Deila’s tenure at Celtic, Ajer made a slow start to life at Parkhead but has since developed into an outstanding player, making 44 appearances in all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).

Indeed, he has been described by Bhoys legend John Hartson as the club’s number one defender (Glasgow Evening Times), and given his role in Celtic’s treble treble, his place in Hoops history has already been assured.

Here is how some Celtic fans reacted to the club’s Twitter announcement of his latest Norway call-up:

Norway will be relying on Ajer’s defensive prowess as they currently sit second from bottom in the six-team Group F on one point from two games, ahead of only Faroe Islands, who are yet to pick up a point (UEFA.com), and Lars Lagerback’s charges have also shipped five goals in those two games.
