The Celtic defender was one of the few Hoops players praised by much of the Bhoys fanbase during the lacklustre cup win at Parkhead.

Celtic’s unconvincing extra-time 2-1 win over Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup saw plenty of criticism on social media from the Bhoys fanbase but several players received praise, and it’s little surprise that the ever-reliant Kristoffer Ajer was one of those.

Considering how the Hoops’ defence has been lacklustre recently – no fan will need reminding what happened in midweek – the Norwegian’s dominant, assured displays at the back continue to be solace for a Bhoys fanbase getting increasingly anxious regarding the squad.

Indeed, there was serious concern when Ajer had to come off in the 76th minute due to a shoulder injury – Neil Lennon later said the defender “popped his shoulder but we think he’s okay now” – as he was replaced by Olivier Ntcham, with Nir Bitton dropping back into defence.

Here is what some of the Celtic fanbase wrote on Twitter about the 21-year-old’s display against the Scottish Championship side:

Ajer joined Celtic in July 2016 during Ronny Deila’s tenure and initially made a slow start to life at Parkhead but has since developed into an outstanding player, making 45 appearances in all competitions last term (Transfermarkt).
