Celtic’s Scottish Premiership season got off to a dismal start as they lost 2-1 away at Heart of Midlothian on Saturday night, with Craig Gordon playing a key role.

Ange Postecoglou’s men crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Midtjylland in midweek, and were hoping to bounce back in Edinburgh.

However, slack defending from new signing Carl Starfelt saw Hearts take the lead, with ex-Bhoys ace Gary Mackay-Steven opening the scoring.

Celtic did find a leveller from an unlikely source as right back Anthony Ralston went on an adventure forward and fired home the equaliser.

Hearts did claim the win though, with defender John Souttar heading home a late free kick to send Celtic home empty-handed.

There was a certain irony late in the game as Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon pulled off not one but two great saves to deny James Forrest and Carl Starfelt.

Gordon was the hero for Hearts as he ensured three points against his former club, with Celtic still really seeking a settled goalkeeper to replace Gordon.

Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain haven’t been able to do that, and Gordon’s double save last night sparked Celtic fans into action on Twitter.

Some slated the Celtic board for letting Gordon go for nothing to then focus on two goalkeepers who just aren’t as good as Gordon.

Others called the situation a ‘joke’, believing that a dependable keeper like Gordon proved to be the difference last night.
