Will Rangers provide a ‘guard of honour’ for rivals Celtic this weekend?

Celtic face Rangers for the sixth time this season in all competitions this weekend, aiming to preserve their unbeaten record in domestic competition in 2016/17.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have already been crowned champions, winning their sixth title in succession at the start of the month.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash between the two teams at Ibrox, a hot topic of conversation among fans is whether Rangers will give Celtic a ‘guard of honour’ ahead of kick off.

Celtic have received the gesture in previous matches against Ross County and Partick Thistle since winning the title against Hearts earlier this month, but there is no official word whether Rangers will offer the same gesture.

It would make tough viewing for Rangers fans to see their side pay respect to their opponents before kick-off, with a bitter rivalry existing between the two clubs.

The very prospect of it happening has caused plenty of amusement among Celtic fans, for who it would just top off a dream season which has seen them put the Gers in their place.

Rangers supporters have not reacted well to the possibility of their players paying tribute to Scott Brown and co. before kick off, when they should be getting fired up and ready to do battle.

Fans have been taking to Twitter pledging to even walk out of the stadium if it happens, or if there is advance notice, not to enter the ground until it is over. One fan even said he will be ‘handing back’ his club scarf.
