Some Celtic fans have been alerted by Chris Hughton’s availability ahead of the summer.

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that the club should consider making a move for Chris Hughton after the former Republic of Ireland international was sacked by Brighton following the end of the Premier League season.

Hughton endured a tough campaign with the Seagulls, but managed to ensure that they will be playing top flight football again next year as they finished 17th. But just one day after losing to Manchester City, Hughton left his post.

That has prompted a number of Celtic fans to suggest that the Hoops board should consider a move for the 60-year-old with Neil Lennon’s Parkhead future still up in the air at this stage.

Lennon deserves great credit for keeping the Hoops’ push for another domestic Treble on track in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ departure. But there appear to be a number of supporters who are keen to see the club avoid making a sentimental decision with Lennon’s return still proving to be a slightly underwhelming one.

Neil Lennon, manager of Celtic, looks on from the dugout during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Some of the performances have been disappointing, particularly at the weekend in the latest Old Firm game. And that has left some supporters believing that Hughton would be a better option than Lennon if they can get him through the door.

The Telegraph has reported that West Brom are hoping to speak to Hughton about the job at the Hawthorns. But if the door remains open for Celtic to make a move, it appears to be an appointment that would be quite popular with plenty of the fans.
