Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has hinted that Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard could be playing together often during the coming season.

One of the most interesting changes that Brendan Rodgers has made during Celtic’s first games this summer is the selection of two strikers, with Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard being used together after a campaign where the Northern Irishman clearly preferred to pick just one forward to lead the line.
The early signs suggest that picking Dembele and Edouard together could prove to be a great move for the Hoops after their comfortable Champions League qualifying win, with the pair providing three of their six goals in the tie.
It is early days, but it is a tremendous show of faith from Rodgers given that he has rarely moved away from using a sole striker during his time at Parkhead. In fact, it could be an incredibly exciting move when you consider the last strike partnership Rodgers showed real faith in.
Though the strikers Rodgers had available when he left Liverpool were nothing to get too excited about, there was a period not long before when the Anfield faithful were getting used to seeing Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge tear teams apart on a weekly basis as they came desperately close to lifting the Premier League title.

The pair scored 51 top flight goals in the 2013/14 season alone. And while Suarez may have been with the Reds before Rodgers’ arrival, it was the current Celtic boss who put the final piece of the jigsaw in place by signing Sturridge.
Putting that pairing together hints that Rodgers knows when he has something special. And while both men are some way off Sturridge’s and Suarez’s level right now, perhaps his decision to change tactical approach and put Dembele and Edouard together is a sign that Rodgers feels that he has something extremely exciting on his hands.
