Celtic-owned Lewis Morgan could be set for an international call-up.

According to The Scottish Sun, St Mirren playmaker Lewis Morgan could be handed an international call-up by new Scotland manager Alex McLeish.

McLeish became Scotland manager for the second time in his career last month, replacing Gordon Strachan after a lengthy search for a new boss.

Whilst McLeish doesn’t have a World Cup to plan for, Scotland do take on Costa Rica and Hungary in friendlies later this month, and McLeish could hand call-ups to a host of new players.

The Scottish Sun now claim that Lewis Morgan could be in line for a first senior call-up, two months since signing for Celtic and returning to St Mirren on loan.

A bright future ahead

Morgan, 21, only has two Scotland Under-21 caps to his name, but his form in the Scottish Championship with St Mirren has not only put him in contention for an international call-up, but also earned him a January move.

Celtic swooped to land Morgan in January after seeing him hit 13 goals in 26 games for Jack Ross’ side, but agreed to loan the playmaker back to the Buddies until the end of the season.

McLeish will have a number of players on his radar for call-ups, but the idea that Morgan is already in contention without having played a top-flight game should be cause for excitement for Celtic fans.

Morgan will start his Celtic career this summer, and may do it having already played for Scotland – and the improvement of players like Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths under Brendan Rodgers means Morgan may have a huge future ahead of him.
