Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has been linked with a move to Arsenal over the past few days, with The Scottish Sun reporting the Gunners’ interest last week.
Supporters are loathe to lose the top talent, and would want a huge fee in return.
An injury hit season for Tierney last year has depressed his market value somewhat.
This led to BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer Tom English suggesting Celtic should loan him out for a year first.
He pontificated that Celtic loaning Tierney out would lead to his fee inflating, sparking a bidding war next summer.
Celtic fans were not kind in their responses.
The idea of losing Tierney’s services for a full season just to gamble on a few extra million was not taken as a worthwhile trade.
