Celtic have extended Mikey Johnston’s contract with the club.
Celtic have tied down another player to a new contract today, as young forward Mikey Johnston has penned a contract until 2023.
The Bhoys saw Ryan Christie sign a new deal last week after a fine run of form, and Celtic continue to plan for the future with this new deal for Johnston.
The 19-year-old Glaswegian has been coming up through the Celtic ranks having joined the club in 2008, and made his first-team debut for the club in 2017 having been handed a chance under Brendan Rodgers.
A regular for the Scotland Under-19’s and now Under-21’s, Johnston has been handed a bigger role this term, playing in nine games so far as he looks to continue his development with Rodgers at the hem.
The teenager was set to be out of contract in 18 months, and Celtic risked qualms over this future, but have now eased any fears with this new contract.
Some Celtic fans were delighted with the news, suggesting that Johnston will get even better in the coming years, and Christie’s rise to prominence shows that he will get his chance to become a Celtic star.
However, others weren’t so enthused as they had been hoping that the contract announcement would be for defender Dedryck Boyata, with the Belgian set to leave for free in 2019 – but those fans should still be excited that a top young talent is committing his future to Celtic, no matter what happens with Boyata.
