West Bromwich Albion winger James McClean has fluttered his eyelashes in the direction of Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
James McClean has never hid his love for Glasgow Celtic.
But the West Brom winger has now left no one in any doubt about his desire to pull on the green and white hoops at some point in his career after being seduced by the club following their infamous 2-1 Champions League win over Barcelona back in 2012.
“I remember saying to my wife, while I have always wanted to play for Celtic, I wanted to do it even more so that night,” McClean said in quotes reported by the Daily Record. “I’m a Premier League footballer and leaving the ground that night, I was thinking I would give anything to play for Celtic.”
At the age of 28, however, time is tight and McClean may be aware that he might not have too many more opportunities to prove that he deserves the chance to fulfil his dream and trot out in the shirt of the Scottish champions.
McClean has only started three of 14 Premier League games for West Brom this season and, with the January transfer window just a fortnight away, you could certainly argue that the winger appears to be angling for a move.
But will Brendan Rodgers grant his wish? Celtic aren’t short of widemen after all with even Jonny Hayes, an SPFA Player of the Year nominee last season, struggling to get into the side after his move from Aberdeen.
And while no one could question McClean’s commitment to the cause, the question is whether he would be worth the money for Celtic.
