Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to question whether Charlie Mulgrew could still do a job for Celtic after the 32-year-old scored twice to help Blackburn Rovers come from 2-0 down to claim a point in their latest Championship clash – and a number of Hoops fans have responded to the retired striker’s comments.
Heading into the final days of the transfer window, it certainly does appear that Brendan Rodgers may need to prioritise signing a new centre-back.
The Hoops have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five games in all competitions, and it could be argued that none of the club’s options at the heart of their defence have made themselves indispensable this term.
Mulgrew meanwhile, opened his account for the season on Wednesday night as he scored twice from the penalty spot to help Rovers come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Reading.
The utility man has been a sensational signing for the Championship outfit, scoring 14 goals in the league last season as they secured promotion. And his brace against the Royals prompted Sutton to suggest that he could still do a job at Celtic, perhaps alluding to the problems that the Bhoys currently have at centre-back.
And in response, a number of Celtic fans have commented on whether they would like to see Mulgrew back at Parkhead. And while there are some who are less keen, many have suggested that they believe that the club should have not let him leave or that he could still make an impact for Rodgers’ men.
