The Hoops and Socceroos ace is set for the sidelines after the Asian Cup. Some Celtic fans are really not pleased.

Celtic have been dealt a huge blow as Brendan Rodgers confirmed that midfielder Tom Rogic will be out for up to six weeks after sustaining a knee injury in the Asian Cup.

The 26-year-old has not long returned from international duty with Australia but is set to miss a significant amount of the season as he prepares to undergo surgery.

Rogic, who missed the Old Firm derby defeat by Rangers in December due to Socceroos duty, played five times for his nation during January but missed their quarter-final defeat by United Arab Emirates.

The Hoops boss, speaking on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to St Johnstone, said his player had an issue with his hand at the tournament and then incurred the knee injury when he landed awkwardly during a game.

“It is a real blow for us,” Rodgers is quoted by BBC Sport as saying. “He’s seen a knee specialist in London, but we’ll be without him for a while.

“He went yesterday to check his hand didn’t need an operation and, while he was there, we thought we would have his knee looked at and it showed up a lateral meniscus problem.”

The news comes as a huge dampener after a decent month for the Parkhead side, who won all four of their post-winter break games without conceding and bolstered their ranks considerably in the January window.
