West Bromwich Albion’s technical director has hit out at Celtic boss Neil Lennon following Oliver Burke’s Parkhead loan spell.
A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to respond to comments made by West Brom technical director Luke Dowling – reported by the Daily Record – in which he criticised Hoops boss Neil Lennon for his treatment of Oliver Burke.
Burke is heading back to the Hawthorns this summer after an underwhelming loan spell with the Scottish Premiership champions. After arriving in January, it appeared that the winger was going to be an inspired signing as he scored twice on his Scottish Premiership debut.
However, he struggled to hold down a place in the team and by the end of the campaign, there appeared to be few calls from the supporters for Celtic to try and make his loan deal permanent.
But while the Scotland international already appeared to be starting to struggle before Brendan Rodgers’ departure however, Dowling seemed to place all of the blame at Lennon’s door. In comments by the Daily Record, he insisted that there was no way that Burke would be heading back to Celtic while the Northern Irishman is in charge – though he did not elaborate on what had gone on behind the scenes.
The Celtic fans on social media have leapt to Lennon’s defence. While it is difficult to make a firm judgement without the full story, it is clear that the supporters back Lennon’s decision to not use Burke as regularly as the Baggies would have liked.
He was poor for much of his loan spell and only rarely showed glimpses of the player that burst onto the scene at Nottingham Forest. So it is little surprise that plenty of fans are disagreeing with Dowling’s criticism of the Hoops boss.
