Defoe has joined Rangers on an 18-month loan deal.
Celtic fan Trevor Sinclair has suggested on Twitter that Brendan Rodgers’ side should have signed Rangers’ January recruit Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth – and Celtic fans have reacted in mixed fashion.
Defoe, 36, has put pen to paper on an 18-month loan deal which sees him still on the books at Bournemouth, but will wear the blue of Rangers until the summer of 2020.
Celtic had been linked with a move for the 57-time England international, with the Hoops desperately in need of a striker. Odsonne Edouard has been somewhat hit and miss, while Leigh Griffiths is taking time out from football.
Sinclair, who has publicly declared that he is a Celtic fan due to his Mother’s Irish heritage, claimed on Twitter that Defoe should have signed for the Hoops instead of picking Rangers.
Instead, Defoe has reunited himself with ex-England teammate Steven Gerrard, and will be looking to stop Celtic from making it eight consecutive Scottish Premiership titles in a row.
Celtic fans reacted to Sinclair’s Tweet with plenty of different opinions. Many believe that Defoe would have been a good signing for Celtic, while others reckon he is past it.
