The decision Rangers make on Alfredo Morelos’ future this summer could have big bearings on their Scottish Premiership title challenge with Celtic.
Celtic fans have reacted to comments made by Steven Gerrard about Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos where he insisted that a potential sale regarding the striker ‘won’t happen late’.
The Gers boss also made it clear that Morelos will not be allowed to leave Ibrox unless ‘a really big offer’ were to come in for the player who was Rangers’ top goalscorer last season, as quoted by BBC Sport.
Celtic fans think it is pure desperation from Gerrard’s part to offload his player and that the seemingly big price-tag that has been put on his head will not be met.
Morelos was key to Gerrard’s side success last season, but he was also a problem for the team as a whole because of his off-the-ball actions.
Nonetheless, with Jermaine Defoe at the club, and the England man now having a pre-season under his belt, Gerrard has viable options to choose from to play upfront – but if he loses Morelos, he will still need to replace him.
However this saga unfolds over the summer will have big bearings on Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title challenge with Celtic because if the Light Blues make the wrong choices it could result in serious consequences.
Equally, if they make the right call, whichever way, then Gerrard might just find himself stopping Celtic from winning nine-in-a-row next season.
Either way, the Celtic supporters think Gerrard is trying to part ways with his main striker this summer, but they can’t see him going for a big fee.
