Scott Allan was one of three notable Celtic players to miss the cut for Brendan Rodgers’s Europa League squad.

Some Celtic fans on Twitter have questioned Brendan Rodgers’s decision to leave Scott Allan out of his Europa League squad.

The Scottish midfielder, Marvin Compper and new signing Daniel Arzani were all notable omissions from Rodgers’s squad.

The 26-year-old hasn’t yet made a competitive appearance for Celtic since the Northern Irishman replaced Ronny Deila in May 2016.

Allan enjoyed loan spells with Dundee and Hibernian last season but did not wind up leaving Parkhead this past summer, prompting belief that Rodgers intended to use him.

But leaving him out of the Europa League squad seems a direct contradiction to that.

Allan managed 18 appearances across all competitions during his first season at Parkhead, and some Celtic fans on Twitter reckon that Rodgers is wrong to exclude him.

Allan is indeed a decent player, but is ‘decent’ enough? Not at Celtic, where Youssouf Mulumbu has just been added to the wealth of midfield options. He is undoubtedly a good footballer, but Rodgers has better ones available in his position and that’s the problem.
