Celtic are one of the sides reportedly interested in signing Southampton forward Shane Long on loan this summer.

A number of Celtic fans have taken to social media to comment on the reports emerging from The Sun on Sunday (26/08; page 61) over the weekend which suggested that the Hoops were one of a number of teams interested in signing Shane Long on loan from Southampton.

The Bhoys have endured a fairly quiet transfer window, with Daniel Arzani proving to be the only new signing who was not at the club last year in some capacity. And it appears that Brendan Rodgers is looking to step things up in the final days before the deadline.

According to The Sun on Sunday (26/08; page 61), the Saints could be open to the idea of letting Long leave on loan, and the 31-year-old is now attracting attention from a handful of Championship clubs in England as well as Celtic.

The reports have been met with a somewhat mixed reaction amongst some of the Celtic fans on social media – though the general consensus suggests that he would not be a particularly exciting signing for the Bhoys.

Long’s record with the Saints stands at 20 goals in 124 Premier League games. That tally is much more impressive when you consider that he has appeared 59 times as a substitute. But it is still not enough to capture the imagination of the Celtic fans.

Some believe that he would be a good addition, but many are convinced that the Bhoys should have their sights set elsewhere in the last days of the window with Long hardly a marquee target for the Scottish Premiership champions.
