Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic and Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers renew hostilities in Sunday’s Old Firm in the Scottish Cup.
Celtic fans have laughed off the latest comments made by Rangers right-back James Tavernier.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Tavernier intimated that he and his Rangers team-mates can draw inspiration from a couple of miraculous wins across the continent ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Brendan Rodgers’s much-fancied side at Hampden Park.
Celtic are big favourites to edge out their Old Firm rivals en route to the final of the competition, and move within 90 minutes of a historic double treble in the process.
The defender said: “City had their chance to win it against Man United but, obviously, Man United stopped that happening. It’s one of those stories.
“You saw it again last night with Roma and Barcelona. These things can be done in football and in an Old Firm game anything can happen.”
Being one of their bigger players and a fluent English speaker, Tavernier is often requested for media duties in the lead up to a Glasgow derby.
And Celtic fans have rubbished his latest attempt to play up the Gers’ chances of victory.
The Hoops are 13 points clear of Graeme Murty’s side in the Premiership, and a seventh successive league title looks a certainty at this stage.
