Lewis Morgan might be leaving Celtic to join Sunderland on loan, according to a report.
It’s been a little over a year since Celtic signed Lewis Morgan.
On January 5 in 2018, the 22-year-old officially joined Celtic in a £300,000 deal [Daily Mail], but was loaned straight back to St Mirren for the rest of the season.
Morgan has been with the Hoops for over six months now and, well, it hasn’t quite gone to plan.
The Scotland Under-21 international is yet to start a Premiership game under Brendan Rodgers, making nine substitute appearances, though he has started in the Europa League.
He hasn’t scored or set up a goal in 12 appearances across all competitions, so it was no surprise when The Daily Star reported that Sunderland manager Jack Ross – who had him at St Mirren – wanted him at the Stadium of Light on loan.
It seems very likely that Rodgers will greenlight the move after signing Oliver Burke on loan last week, but some fans of the Parkhead side aren’t so sure it’s a wise decision.
The Celtic fans who mentioned Scott Sinclair are spot-on.
The English winger has been up and down all season with regards to his form, and maybe Rodgers should have taken a punt on Morgan more times than he has done.
Morgan, who scored 18 Championship goals last season, is clearly a very talented player and you can understand why some Celtic fans want him to stay at Paradise rather than get loaned out.
