The Hoops left-back, who missed out Scotland’s European Championship qualifiers, is a doubt for the Scottish Premiership game this weekend.
Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that Kieran Tierney is a doubt for Sunday’s Old Firm derby in the Scottish Premiership.
The left-back missed Scotland’s European Championship qualifying games against Kazakhstan and San Marino with a calf injury.
According to the Hoops boss, Tierney suffered a reaction to the same issue that ruled him out of international duty, looking uncomfortable during the training session.
As reported by Sky Sports News last week, Tierney had played through a knock in Celtic’s Scottish Premiership win over Dundee but failed to recover in time to play for Scotland.
According to the Daily Record, the 21-year-old flew back early from international duty to receive treatment in a desperate bid to be fit for the Rangers clash and seemed to be on track.
“Kieran has had a bit of a reaction [Friday] and may be a doubt,” Lennon is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying. “We will have to assess him tomorrow.
“It is the same issue and we will leave it maybe as late as possible to see how it is. He looked uncomfortable so we will give it 24 hours to see how it goes.”
If Tierney is ruled out of the game against Rangers, potential replacements at left-back could include Emilio Izaguirre, Jonny Hayes or Callum McGregor.
However, the latter was utilised there in the 1-0 loss at Ibrox in December and it did not work particularly well.
