Johnny Russell is still holding out hope for a move to Celtic.

Johnny Russell has told BBC Sport that he is still hoping to join boyhood club Celtic at some point, even though time may be running out for him.
Russell, 29, made his name with Dundee United, and his success at Tannadice resulted in interest from both Celtic and English side Derby County back in 2013.
Having grown up a Celtic fan, Russell unsurprisingly wanted a move to Parkhead, but he told Open Goal earlier this year that the Bhoys simply wouldn’t pay the £750,000 asking price.
That left Russell to sign for Derby instead, robbing him of his dream move to Celtic, but he hasn’t quite given up hope of a move back to his hometown of Glasgow just yet.
Currently playing in Major League Soccer with Sporting Kansas City, Russell has hit nine goals and eight assists in all competitions this season.
That means the winger is still in and around Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad, and he’s now admitted that he still hopes to earn a move to Celtic, as the matter was taken out of his hands six years ago.

Celtic fans have unsurprisingly reacted to the comments, with some believing that Russell needs to ‘wake up’ and realise that a Celtic move won’t happen, believing it’s too late for him to be joining the club.
Others would take Russell in a heartbeat, feeling he’s better than Jonny Hayes, but maybe feel that another winger isn’t exactly what Neil Lennon needs right now.
