Forget Aberdeen’s Jonny Hayes, Middlesbrough’s former Ajax wonderkid Viktor Fischer could be a thrilling addition for Celtic.

As it stands, it appears as if Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes is Brendan Rodgers’ first pick if Celtic cannot agree a deal with Manchester City to keep Patrick Roberts at Parkhead for another season, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

And though the 29-year-old enjoyed a fine season at Pittodrie, you could forgive Celtic supporters for feeling a little underwhelmed.

Hayes is 29-years-of-age after all. And is the Northern Irishman really the player to help Celtic progress in Europe next season? In reality, he would challenge James Forrest for a place in the starting XI rather than take Celtic to another level.

Viktor Fischer, however, is an entirely different kettle of fish. Alongside Christian Eriksen, the Danish winger was expected to be the next superstar to emerge from Ajax’s famed academy.

Yet, while Eriksen is now one of Europe’s most complete midfield creators, helping Tottenham Hotspur evolve into arguably the most exciting side in England, Fischer looks set to be let go by Middlesbrough after just one season and six starts.

And, according to the Northern Echo, Celtic are keen with Brendan Rodgers a long-time admirer. At just 22, Fischer has time on his side and, in truth, it’s only injuries that have stopped him living up to exalted expectations.

An unbelievable dribbler capable of feats of escapology that would make even Houdini blink, Fischer could be one of Celtic’s most inspired signings in many a year if fitness stays on his side.
