Celtic have taken a positive step towards progression in the UEFA Champions League with a 1-1 away draw to Romanian champions CFR Cluj.

The Hoops’ opposition always promised to provide a tough test and they didn’t disappoint in that regard, taking the lead in the match before James Forrest scored a superb equaliser.

A win would have been ideal for the away team, but a draw and an away goal to bring back to Celtic Park is the next best thing.

Neil Lennon’s side will fancy their chances of finishing the job in the second leg next week.

Lennon named two of his summer signings in the starting eleven – Boli Bolingoli and Hatem Abd Elhamed.

It was the latter who impressed many throughout, with his work ethic, passing and ability on the ball winning plaudits on social media.

It’s early days of course, but he’s had a good start to his Hoops career and tonight’s match will be a boost to his confidence after he had to go off injured against St Johnstone on Saturday.

He looks like a solid buy to replace Mikael Lustig in the starting lineup after the Swede’s exit at the end of last season.
