Celtic’s pre-season trip to France ended on Saturday evening with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lyon.

The Bhoys drew with Nice on Thursday evening, and moved on to play Lyon yesterday at the Groupama Stadium.

Neil Lennon named a rather experimental side for the game, handing starts to the likes of Stephen Welsh, Karamoko Dembele, Ismaila Soro, Scott Robertson and Patryk Klimala.

Ex-Celtic striker Moussa Dembele opened the scoring for Lyon, before Memphis Depay flicked home a nonchalant goal to make it 2-0.

Mohamed Elyounoussi did get one back for Celtic, but the Bhoys head back to Glasgow without a win in this mini-tournament, which probably won’t bother Lennon too much.

Fitness and game time is the key right now, and he handed a chance to young midfielder Ewan Henderson against lofty competition.

The 20-year-old midfielder has eight first-team games under his belt with Celtic, and spent time on loan at Ross County last season.

Henderson may hope for playing time with the Bhoys this coming season, and he did himself no harm with a display that impressed Celtic fans yesterday.

Supporters thought Henderson looked ‘tidy’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘excellent’, and believe that he may be better than brother Liam Henderson, who left Celtic three years ago.
