Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko is linked with a move away from Glasgow.

Eric Sviatchenko of Celtic celebrates as Celtic win the Betfred Cup Final between Aberdeen FC and Celtic FC at Hampden Park on November 27, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Express have reported that Copenhagen are lining up a £3 million move for Celtic centre-back Erik Sviatchenko.

The Dane struggled for regular football in the second half of last season as Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata established themselves as Celtic’s first-choice pairing.

And if everybody is fit then the 25-year-old – who himself is injured at the moment – will probably not fare much better this season.

As a result, speculation about his future makes sense, but it’s fair to say that Hoops fans are rather divided over the centre-back, signed by Ronny Deila in 2016.

Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

As back-up, Sviatchenko was an excellent option behind Simunovic and Boyata, but you can understand his frustrations.

Still, he might be remembered as one of Celtic’s better signings in the Deila era, but as one Twitter user pointed out, the bar has been raised immensely since Rodgers came in last summer, and he is more a victim of that more than anything else.

The Bhoys reached the group stage of the Champions League last night with a 4-3 defeat at Astana, sealing their progression with an 8-4 aggregate victory.

And Sviatchenko may be tempted to stay if only to get the chance to face Europe’s elite again this season, because his reported suitors aren’t guaranteed their entry.

The Danish champions will be hoping to join Celtic in the group stages but first they must overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit in tonight’s visit of Karabag.
