Duff will be Celtic’s reserve team coach while McManus will manage the Under-18s, but some Hoops fans were not happy with the announcement.
Celtic have announced that Damien Duff and Stephen McManus have joined the Scottish Premiership club’s youth setup.
The former is widely considered one of the best Irish footballers of recent times, winning two Premier League titles and a League Cup with Chelsea a decade ago.
Duff also won a League Cup with Blackburn Rovers in 2002 and was a runner-up in the Europa League with Fulham eight years later.
He hung up his boots in 2015 following a short stint at Shamrock Rovers, during which he also began his managerial career by coaching their Under-15s, and joins Celtic as their new reserve team coach after leaving the Dublin-based club.
McManus, who won three league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups during his time at Parkhead, recently held a coaching position with Motherwell, with whom he finished his career, and will be Celtic’s Under-18s coach.
The Hoops made the announcement on Monday, but it looks as though some of the club’s fans didn’t take too kindly to the news – not because of the appointments themselves, but because they were expecting something along the lines of signings.
